I don’t know about you, but before I learned about essential oils, I only associated the phrase “essential oils” with “fragrance”. I thought essential oils were just used in fancy candles, air fresheners, soaps, and lotions in order to make them smell nice.
I never (NEVER!) considered the fact that essential oils could truly be therapeutic.
If you don’t know me, you might consider me a ‘little granola’. For example, I don’t use chemicals to clean… I’d rather get my kids adjusted by the chiropractor than pump them with meds when they’re sick… I make my own kombucha for crying out loud! But even with all the non-mainstream, ‘alternative stuff’ I do, until recently I never gave essential oils much thought as being a legitimate option to support health.
But life has a funny way of proving you wrong… well, proving ME wrong anyways!
All of the practitioners my family sees have Young Living essential oils in their offices (yes, even our medical doctor). I would see them on the shelves or by the sink, but I never had the inclination to learn or ask about them. One day I had to bring my little guy to the doctor, and my practitioner recommended using Young Living Thieves Oil in order to support his immune system. I purchased a bottle and used the oil like she recommended, and the way his body responded was truly amazing. That’s when I knew I had to learn more about essential oils.
What I Discovered
A plant contains essential oils as part of its immune system. Depending on the plant, its unique essential oil can do many things including protecting the plant from pathogenic microorganisms (think fungi, bacteria, etc. that the plant must protect itself from) and healing plant injuries. Essential oils contain compounds that protect and heal the plant.
When great care is taken in cultivating the plants and distilling the oils, the end product can have these same therapeutic properties present in the very plant from which it came. (Please read Why I Use the Young Living Brand of Essential Oil to find out why the vast majority of essential oils available do NOT have therapeutic properties.) Even though this sounds like a scientific breakthrough, the effectiveness of oils is not a new discovery.
Retro is Back In Style
There are references dating as far back as 4500BC that describe using essential oils for therapeutic purposes. In fact, they were mankind’s first medicine. There are 188 references to oils in the Bible, so it’s obvious that essential oils have stood the test of time!
I feel like I’m late to the party on accepting the legitimacy of essential oils for health! But time and time again my family has experienced the benefits of Young Living Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils. Why Young Living? I’m glad you asked. :)
